The Closer You Get by Mary Torjussen - Blog Tour Review

Is a marriage worth saving – whatever the cost?

Ruby didn’t plan to have an affair. She doesn’t love her husband, but wouldn’t set out to steal someone else’s. Yet when she met Harry they simply couldn’t keep apart. Now, she’s brave enough to leave her marital home and start again, and so is Harry. Or so she thinks.

Waiting at a hotel for her lover to arrive, Ruby realises she has made a mistake. Harry won’t come. He will never leave his wife.

What Ruby hasn’t worked out is that someone else knows all about the affair. They have been watching Ruby’s every move. They are determined to punish her. And they are even closer than she thinks…

Don’t miss this taut and gripping novel packed with edge-of-your-seat tension and a tale of love that goes badly wrong, perfect for fans of Shalini Boland and Lisa Hall.

My Review

What an absolutely brilliant read this was! I finished it in just a few hours and would have been quicker if I didn't have to sleep! Mary Torjussen is an excellent author and has written a brilliant story.

I liked the character of Ruby although i did find her slightly naive and trusting. She finds herself in a complicated situation. She thinks is going to start a new happy life, but things do not go to plan. As she comes to terms with her new life, someone seems determined to ruin it for her.

The way the story is told is gripping and I found myself just having to know what happened next. Mary Torjussen is so talented and writes scenes perfectly. As in the description of the book if you love Shalini Boland (as I do) then The Closer You Get will be a perfect read to add to your reading list. It is a fantastic domestic noir/thriller book and I am really excited to read more of Mary Torjussen. She is one of those authors whose book I have heard so much about and have not got around to reading before. So I am beyond pleased to be taking part on the blog tour because it meant I actually got to read a book by an author I have been wanting to read for a while. I am so glad i did because now i have a backlog of her books to catch up and i can't wait!

I absolutely loved everything about this book, the plot, the characters, the writing it was all right up my street! I would highly recommend this novel it is among my favourite reads of this year. There's an air of suspense throughout the novel and an unravelling of lies and secrets that different people are keeping. I won't give anything away, but there are one or two characters in this book I would love to slap!!
