Can You See Her by S.E. Lynes - Books On Tour Review

Rachel Ryder doesn’t understand how her life has changed so completely. When she was younger, heads would turn when she walked into a room. Her children needed her; her husband adored her.

But somehow the years wore that all away. She was so busy raising her children, looking after her parents… She can barely remember the woman she used to be, the one whose husband told her she was out of his league. The woman she is now just does the laundry and makes the dinner, and can walk into a room without anyone knowing she’s there.

She knows that she hated feeling invisible. She knows that she thought: what would it take for you to see me again?

And now she’s worried that she did something terrible. Because she’s sitting in a room, being asked whether she killed someone.

When no-one is watching, you can get away with anything…

Can You See Her? is an utterly compelling and unputdownable psychological thriller, about how far you can push a woman before she will break. Perfect for fans of Gillian Flynn, A.J. Finn and The Silent Patient.

My Review

What an absolutely gripping read this was! S.E  Lynes has delivered another excellent read, she is a super talented author who has written a story that is full of suspense and mystery.

The character of Rachel is one that I really warmed to. She is a complex woman who is fighting a battle with her own mind and her recollection of events. I loved the little flashes of her humour and personality. I was wondering what was going on just as much as she was.

Her family and friends are confused about what is going on her. They want to help her but have no idea what that will entail. She has a good support network but that doesn't seem to help her as she battles her inner demons.

I loved the whole lay out of the book and the way the story is told. Both from Rachel's point of view and from transcripts of her family and friends statements to police. The whole book had a unique feel to it and the writing and scene setting was brilliant.

S.E. Lynes is a cracking author and I think Can You See Her might just be my favourite book of hers so far. I would highly recommend this novel and I am looking forward to seeing what S.E Lynes has to offer up next.
