The Other You by J.S Monroe

Kate used to be good at recognising people. So good, she worked for the police, identifying criminals in crowds of thousands. But six months ago, a devastating car accident led to a brain injury. Now the woman who never forgot a face can barely recognise herself in the mirror.

At least she has Rob. Young, rich, handsome a and successful, Rob runs a tech company on the idyllic Cornish coast. Kate met him just after her accident, and he nursed her back to health. When she's with him, in his luxury modernist house, the nightmares of the accident fade, and she feels safe and loved.

Until, one day, she looks at Rob Agnew. And knows, absolute certainty, that the man before her has been replaced by an imposter.

Is Rob who he says he is? Or is it all in Kate's damaged mind?

My Review

This is my first time reading a book by this author, but it certainly won't be the last. I found the subject of the book to be fascinating. I honestly couldn't stop reading, I couldn't figure out what was going on. I had not heard of super recognisers before and found Kate to be a likeable if slightly naive and impressionable character.

When she met Rob she was vulnerable, she had just had a major car accident and split up with her long term partner. He seemed like the answer to everything, nursing her back to health and giving her a life she could only dream of. So when she starts to notice little things which are strange her whole life is turned upside down again.

She relies heavily on her best friend who supports her wholeheartedly. She also has another guardian angel in the shape of her ex boyfriend. He still loves her and wants to protect her and make sure she is safe and happy.

J.S. Monroe has written a book that had me gripped throughout, and racing through the pages to find out what was going on. His characters are well written and have a depth to them and each brings something to the story. The Other You is a fascinating, unique and gripping story about a woman's mission to re build her life and discover the truth.
