Sound by Catherine Fearns - Blog Tour Review

Can you hear it?

A professor of psycho acoustics is found dead in his office. It appears to be a heart attack, until a second acoustician dies a few days later in similar circumstances.

Meanwhile, there's an outbreak of mysterious illnesses on a council estate, and outbursts of unexplained violence in a city centre nightclub. Not to mention strange noises coming from the tunnels underneath Liverpool. Can it really be a coincidence that death metal band Total Depravity are back in the city, waging their own form of sonic warfare?

Detective Inspector Darren Swift is convinced there are connections. Still grieving his fiance's death and sworn to revenge, he is thrown back into action on the trail of murderer with a terrifying and undetectable weapon.

But this case cannot be solved using conventional detective work, and D.I. Swift will need to put the rulebook aside and seek the occult expertise of Dr. Helen Hope and her unlikely sidekick, Mikko Kristensen.

My Review

I have absolutely loved this series! Catherine Fearns has produced characters that I love. I was so excited to see Helen and Mikko reunited. I also love the friendship that has developed between Helen and Darren Swift

There are so many different sides to Sound. We have the mysterious death, mysterious illness alongside mysterious noises from beneath Liverpool. I was flipping through the pages to find out what was going on.

Catherine Fearns has an outstanding writing style, her descriptions of Liverpool are something I love reading in each of her books. Catherine builds suspense and mystery brilliantly throughout the story, and I couldn't wait to reach the end to find out what was going on.

Darren Swift is fast becoming one of my favourite characters in this series. He works so well with Helen and Mikko. He has a really tight relationship with Helen and thinks of her as a friend. After the loss of his partner, he is not in a good place, so he uses his work and investigation to keep him busy and help him to move on. I so want him to be happy again.

Sound is a unique and gripping read, occult mixed with police investigation made it a book I couldn't put down. I am really hoping there will be more parts in this cracking series. I would love to see what Darren, Helen and Mikko come up against next.
