Life Means Life - Nick Appleyard

As people who have read my blog will know, I have a real interest in true crime. When I saw this book available on Kindle Unlimited I thought I would give it a try. It's been a while since I read a true crime book and this one did not disappoint.

Drew Peterson

The case I am going to be talking about in this post was a really famous case in America. It's the case of a man who believed he was above the law, and the women he married.

Peter Tobin

I recently wrote about an unsolved case, in that post that you can find here I talked about who I think a likely suspect is. So I'm going to talk about that person, Peter Tobin, and his crimes, to give people an understanding of my reasons for believing him to be Bible John.

Charity Shop Book Haul

Books i picked up in charity shop.

I get a lot of my books from charity shops. My local charity shop has an offer on of four books for just £1! I tend to read them then take them back so they can sell them on again. So I thought I'd share with you my latest lot that I picked up.
I enjoy going to charity shops for books, as I tend to pick books that I ordinarily wouldn't read. Because they are four for £1 I can justify buying so many more books in one go, guilt free splurging!
As you'll see I got a good range of different genres. I'm going to give you the descriptions of these books, so you can see what types of books I manage to pick up on a visit to my local charity shop.

Leah Remini/Trouble Maker - Book Review

Just a little disclaimer for this review, I love Leah Remini so I may be a bit bias towards her book. I love her whole attitude and sassiness, and what her new purpose in life is.

Michael Peterson

The Case

On December 9th 2001, emergency services were called by Michael Peterson. He reported his wife, Kathleen, had fallen down the stairs. He claimed he had been outside and had returned to the house to find Kathleen lying at the bottom of the stairs. She died from her injuries. A medical examiner found she had died from injuries to her head; seemingly by a blunt object. She had injuries to her neck as well.

The cause of death was noted as homicide. Michael Peterson was arrested for the murder of his wife. He pled not guilty to the charge.

Book Review - Ruthless/Ron Miscavige

Ruthless book cover
This is a book I chose to read as I am absolutely fascinated by Scientology. I don't want to join or anything I just find the whole concept of this 'religion' and the way it is run interesting. The novel is written by the leader of Scientology's father.

Killer Women Series - Stacey Castor

Stacey Castor in court.

Stacey met her first husband Michael Wallace when she was 17, they had two daughters together Ashley born in 1988 and Bree in 1991.

Michael Wallace

Some time in 1999 Michael began feeling unwell, it is reported he was coughing and seemed unsteady. He subsequently died in early 2000. His daughter Ashley, 11 at the time, was home alone with him when he died. His cause of death was given as a heart attack, although his family questioned that this was the case.

An Internet Love Triangle Ends In Murder

This is by far one of the most weird and complex stories I have heard about. A internet love triangle filled with lies and deceit, ending with the murder of a 22 year old man. He was killed because of a person that didn't even exist in reality, by a 47 year old man who himself was deceitful and had created an alternative personality/life online.

Thomas Montgomery in prison.

Killer Women Series - Jodi Arias

Jodi and Travis in happier times

The Case

On 8th June 2008 police received a call from friends of Travis Alexander, saying they had discovered his bloody body in the shower of his home. They were concerned as they hadn't heard from him for a while, so had gone to check on him. He had been stabbed over 20 times, his throat had been slit and finally he had been shot. The police were told pretty much immediately by his friends and family to investigate his on-off girlfriend Jodi Arias.

Killer Women Series - Betty Broderick

This case was a really high profile one in America at the time it happened. I have seen and read so much about it. I would recommend any fans of real crime movies to watch - A Woman Scorned - The Betty Broderick Story. Meredith Baxter portrays her really well.

Betty Broderick testifying in court

The Case

On November 5th 1989 Dan Broderick and his second wife Linda were shot dead at their home. Dan's ex wife Betty handed herself in and admitted to killing the victims.

Killer Women Series - Ruth Ellis

I have always been interested in the case I'm going to be talking about in this post. It's the case of Ruth Ellis who was the last woman to be hanged for murder in the U.K.
Ruth Ellis

The Case

On Easter Sunday 1955 David Blakely was shot outside a pub in London by Ruth Ellis. She had shouted him and then shot him, her first shot missed and he started to run away but Ruth chased him and shot at him again. This second shot caused him to fall to the ground, Ruth stood over him and shot him three more times. She immediately handed herself in to police and was charged with murder after confessing to the crime.

The Disappearance/Murder of Laci Peterson

One story that has always intrigued/disgusted me is the disappearance and murder of Laci Peterson, a young woman about to give birth to her son Connor, her whole life ahead of her.

Pregnant Laci Peterson
The Disappearance

Laci went missing on Christmas Eve 2002. Her husband rang her mum and asked if she had seen her daughter, then he told her Laci was missing.

He claimed she had planned to go shopping then take their dog for a walk, while he went fishing. A short time after Scott's phone call her parents reported her as missing, a search of the area was conducted but Laci wasnt found and police suspected something bad had happened too her. It was a prioity to find her as she was so close to giving birth and it was so out of character for her go missing.
During the time that Laci was missing her husband was acting strange and didnt really want too speak to the media. Her family were obviously heartbroken and worried sick.

Creatures of Appetite/Todd Travis- Book Review

They call it the Heartland Child Murders. Everyone else calls it a nightmare. Locked doors dont stop him. He leaves no trace behind. He only takes little girls. His nickname..... The Iceman.

Creatures of Appetite book cover

A deranged serial killer roams wintry rural Nebraska, targeting little girls, with a demented purpose no-one can fathom. FBI Special Agent Emma Kane, a former DC cop considered to be damaged goods,is assigned to babysit burned out profiler Jacob Thorne as they both fly to Nebraska to catch this maniac. Thorne is erratic, abrasive and unpredictably brilliant, but what he and Kane find in the heartland is much more than anyone bargained for, especially when the Iceman challenges them personally, where it hurts most.

Murder of DeeDee Blancharde

I recently watched a documentary about this case and found it really interesting. It's called Mommy Dead and Dearest. If you havent seen I would definately give it a watch.

The Case

On June 14 2015, police in Missouri found the body of DeeDee Blancharde stabbed to death on the bed. She had been there for a few days. There wasnt any sign of her daughter, Gypsy Rose who apparently suffered with numerous disabilities including leukemia and muscular dystrophy and had the mental age of a 7 year old. The police were alerted after reports of worrying Facebook posts, they were concerned that Gypsy Rose had also fallen victim to foul play. However Gypsy Rose was found the following day in Wisconsin with a boy she had met online. In this case not everything was as it seemed.

Bloggers Night In

I recently went to a bloggers night in my sisters. We had a great night and a good laugh. I thought I'd do a little run-down of some ideas and things you may need if you fancy having a bloggers night in.

Waiting for the Storm-Marie Landry

Following the death of her mum, 17 year old Charlotte O'Dell travels to Angel Island with her sister and dad. It seems like its going be a terrible holiday until she meets Ezra Rhodes.
He brings her back to living life, and their friendship develops into something more.
But he has secrets and he isnt sharing them with Charlotte. Despite her happiness with Ezra she feels that a storm is on the horizon.

I was sent this book to review. I havent read any of Marie Landry's books before but i do like trying different books.
Waiting for the storm cover

I found the main character Charlotte to be a sad and lonely person. She has a troubled relationship with her sister. She has been cut off from her friends as she has been caring for her dying mum. And her dad is grieving and has shut himself off from his daughters. I could relate to some of her traits as she uses reading to calm her and a way of escape.

So when she meets Ezra she is looking for someone to help her be happy again. Ezra is a mysterious character and she doesn't know much about his past.

I found this book to be a bit slow to get into partly because it's not my usual type of book I think. But once I did it was an enjoyable read, and the authors style of writing I found to be interesting. I would recoommend this book for young adult readers who like romance.

Jeremy Bamber- Guilty or Innocent?

I have an interest in crime and one case that has always fascinated me is the case of Jeremy Bamber, who is currently serving a life sentence for the murder of his parents, sister and twin nephews.

Jeremy Bamber

The question I have always had when I've read or watched anything on this case is whether he is guilty or innocent. There are a lot of points on either side so I wanted to write about these and see what other people think. I don't know if he is guilty or innocent and these are just my opinions on the case.

These Are a Few of My Not so Favourite Things

This is just a chance for me to have a little rant about things that annoy me.

1. Rudeness

I was brought up to use my manners say please and thank you that kind of thing, so it irritates me slightly when people don't do the same. You know like when you hold a door open for someone and they just breeze past without any kind of acknowledgement.

Their Lost Daughters- Book Review

Their Lost Daughters- Joy Ellis

I saw this book on my kindle unlimited recommendations so thought I would give it a try. Once again it's part of a series and is the second book but this didn't make any difference to me as I thought it was fine as a stand-alone book.
This is my favorite genre crime/mystery and this book has a lot of twists and turns. It did take me a while to get into as there are a lot of different characters and different cases thrown into first few chapters. But once I got past that it was an enjoyable read.

Book review- The Escape C.L. Taylor

When a stranger asks Jo Blackmore for a lift, she says yes- then quickly wishes she hadn't.

This book was recommended to me by my partners mum, who gave me her copy to read I do prefer reading an actual book to my kindle. She said this book was brilliant so I thought I would do a review on it.
The Escape Book Cover

The plot is that a stranger gets into Jo Blackmore's car after asking for a lift but she knows Jo's name and her husband Max without being told. She also has a glove belonging to Jo's two year old daughter.

Top 5 Martina Cole books

Martina Cole is my favorite author, I have read and re-read all of her books so I wanted to make a list of my top 5. I personally prefer her earlier novels but still thoroughly enjoy her new stuff and am really looking forward to her new book coming out. Some of her stories cover subjects that are hard hitting and gritty.
